► Biebs’ “Believe” both hits the mark and misses it concurrently. Voice may have dropped, but voice surely did not mature. It’s not stronger, not bolder; Just less pubescent. FutureSex-ish production and friendly tween lyrics make the album approachable, but JB is no JT. Bieber’s cosmic brand permeates a slightly older demographic than before with little extortion mostly because the EDM influenced disc is congested with urban artist features seeking to give street cred. Signature poppy teen idol ballads ebb and flow. The only stain on Bieber’s pristine rep has been a false paternity accusation in which he responds on “Maria”. Echoing MJ’s “Billie Jean”, Biebs creatively tells his side of the story. (First thing “real” that he’s sung about?) Hands down, “As Long As You Love Me” is the album’s best offering (all thanks to producer Jerkins). Honorable mentions: “All Around The World” and “Beauty And A Beat”. Honestly I don’t have Bieber fever, but happen to “believe” the album is worth a shot. (Too cheesy?)
